 Which Bike?

The Bafang drive mounts in place of your current bike's bottom bracket and replaces your bike's crank set and front derailleur if you have one.

Your donor bike must have 68-73mm bottom bracket width. That means this kit will bolt onto almost any bicycle. But not fat bikes. We have the BBSHD which is 1000W nominal 1500W peak and will work with fat bikes 100-120mm bottom brackets BBSHD located here.

Many people have found that the Bafang can actually be mounted to many types of trikes, which can be fun since many trikes are not good candidates for hub motor kits.

Maybe you have an old donor bike laying around you want to convert, or maybe you are wide open to which bike to buy and install this kit on.

If you are also shopping for a bike to install this kit, that is perfect. We recommend you pick a bike that is known to be compatible with this drive and has no known issues.

BBS02 OR BBSHD?

BBSHD is the Heavy Duty version of this same motor, overbuilt for extra durability and power.

The BBS02 is a better option over the BBSHD in these cases:

  • When cost is a factor
  • When you do not need the extra power the BBSHD offers
  • When you do not need extreme hill climbing power
  • When you want a lightweight build

    The best way to commute

Posted by Paul on 9th Aug 2019

I bought this kit to put on my flat bar road bike. So far I’ve done 600km and it is fantastic. This kit has turned a difficult 1 hour 20 minute commute into a nice easy 1 hour recovery ride. The power is there that’s for sure – easily doing 25kph up 10% grades. The installation was pretty easy. I did have to re-route the rear derailler cable away from the bottom bracket but apart from that – it was pretty much plug and play. I did a lot of searching for the best price and I couldn’t do any better than Luna Mate. I think the postage took about a week and the service from Luna has been fantastic. You should buy one of these kits – they are heaps of fun.

I've bought several of these motor kits to put on bikes and have never had any troubles what so ever. These kits are easy to install and postage to the eastern states was only a few days if your looking to electrify your bike you can't really go wrong with one of these kits. Very happy with the service and quality of packaging it came in.

    BAFANG BBS02 750W Kit

Posted by Newton on 23rd Oct 2017

I have been impressed with the ease of use and performance, especially on hills, where the assist makes all hills and steep driveways easily do-able. I recently went on a short (20k) ride with other e-bikes, and was surprised it out performed many others (some off-the-shelf e-bikes). It easily kept pace with them all, on hills and flat, with still plenty of power left in the battery when back home. Highly recommended.

    Much better than expected

Posted by Wayne on 26th May 2017

I've been riding a 36v hub motor off road as a farm runabout for about 10 years and have been watching the BBS02's development for about two. I put a lot of research into any purchase I make and I haven't been disappointed. These kits are surprisingly good, even with the standard gearing the torque and hill climbing ability is brilliant. Most of my riding is rough off-road, farm work with the occasional 20kl trip to town or friends place. I've built a GT mountain bike with 24in wheels and Sturmey Archer 3speed x 2speed derailleu, simple, sturdy and user friendly. Would I recommend it? Yep, I feel that this style of mid mount is the future of ebiking and possibly even small emotorcycling or scootering. It's so compact and adaptable.
